At Southbourne Tennis Club we have been running an Open Court Tennis Programme since the London 2012 Paralympics. This has led to many more people with disabilities and impairments having the chance to participate in tennis.
We strive to have an open door policy and be able to offer tennis as an all-inclusive sport. This year we had over 100 participants a month who have an impairment or disability. We would like to continue and expand the work we currently doing to guarantee opportunities for all.
In recognition of our good work in 2016 and 2020 we were awarded The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Regional winners for Best Disability Programme and have been the winners of LTA Dorset Club of the year from 2012-2016 mainly to our inclusive tennis work and tennis in the community projects. We have specific sessions for Children and Adults with Down Syndrome, Adult Wheelchair tennis and Adults with Learning Disability. Other opportunities available on request.
